Geographic Location and Population

Barangay 2 Lawaan, Eastern Samar is a población community categorized as urban with a total land area of 0.7142 (1.5 sq. m.) hectares with lowland classification along coastal area. Its major economic source are commerce and fishing. This barangay is located along the coastal area of Lawaan facing the Leyte Gulf. This is where the public market is located, Lawaan Wharf and Tabuan area. The total number of population is 98 with 26 number of households. The total number of families is 36. Neighboring barangays include Brgy. 1 in the west and Brgy. 5 in the south.

Disaster Vulnerability
  • Flooding: Prone to flooding, however, the flood susceptibility of the barangay is low to moderate.
  • Liquefaction: Liquefaction of the barangay can be hazardous in some areas since this barangay is located along the coastal areas. The susceptibility status of the barangay with regard to liquefaction is low to moderate.
  • Storm Surge: Storm surge is also a hazard affecting Brgy. 2. It is low to moderate.

What to do

Alert Level 1 (Yellow)
  • 3 days before the landfall, BDRRMC to operate preemptive evacuation of high-risk residents specifically the vulnerable sectors like people with disability, senior citizens, pregnant/lactating mothers and children 0-5 years old, 6-12 years old, and 13-17 years old to ensure orderly and safe evacuation.
  • Securing the livelihood and properties and provision of evacuation sites for these assets.
Alert Level 2 (Orange)
  • 1 day before landfall, employ total evacuation or forced evacuation of the populace to the designated evacuation centers.
  • Security provided to all evacuation sites and their assets.
Alert Level 3 (Red)
  • Typhoons landfall, the community is expected to be already in place at all designated evacuation centers.
  • First aid kit are provided.
  • Rescue team are on standby mode.
Safe Alert
  • 1-2 days after the landfall, BDRRMC will launch clearing operations, damage assessment and need analysis (DANA), search and rescue, and relief distribution.
  • Safe level alert will be announced upon clearance by the BDRRMC and set the operation to bring the families back to their homes.

  • Issue warning for possibility of flooding and storm surge
  • Listen to the weather forecast/updates from TV, radio, and reliable internet sites
  • Put the house support
  • Prepare important things, documents, and appliances and put in a safe area
  • Secure animals and livestock.
